Secrets to Get Free Shipping on Amazon
You’ve probably been in this situation before – you find a great deal on Amazon and when you click on your cart to checkout, you realize there isn’t free shipping on Amazon. You have sticker shock as you see the shipping cost.
Paying for shipping is one of the frustrating aspects of shopping online, but with these tips, you can save yourself quite a bit of money by getting free shipping on Amazon.
If you purchase $25 of books, you get free shipping on your entire order. Books make great gifts for kids and you can stock up for birthday parties and Christmas; bunch a book purchase to hit $25, tack on any other item, and enjoy free shipping on everything.
Combine your purchases
Once you reach a total of $49 in products, shipping becomes free for items that are fulfilled and shipped by Amazon. It’s not too hard to get to $49, but if you want to be strategic, make a list of 2-3 months’ worth of birthday gifts you need. Buy the gifts together, and voila! Free shipping.
Quite a few people take advantage of Amazon Prime, and chances are good at least one of your friends would be willing to allow you to “borrow” their Prime membership every once in awhile. Your friend can place the order for you, ship it to your house, and you can even pay them electronically via PayPal for free using their email address. If you find yourself starting to ask often enough that you feel badly, maybe just bite the bullet and get Prime yourself.
Speaking of, get a Amazon Prime membership
When you sign up, you’ll get a 30-day free trial, and then the membership is $10.99 per month after that (or you can pay $99/year in a one-time payment if you think you’ll keep using the membership). Depending what you purchase, Prime will pay for itself from a shipping perspective if you place just one order a month. When you factor in the other perks, it does shake out to be a great deal.

Sign up for Prime Student
If you’re a student, you can’t not sign up for a Amazon Prime Student membership! You get a 6 month free trial, an extra $10 for each friend you convince to sign up, and then a half-priced membership of Prime after your free trial is over.
Be on the lookout for free shipping offers.
There are items, most often those sold via the marketplace (not fulfilled by Amazon), where free shipping is available regardless of purchase minimums. It usually takes a little longer for you to get these items, so plan accordingly.
Amazon is most cost-effective when you bunch items and/or get the Prime membership.
Even if you just use Amazon for a few items here and there, however, you can still avoid shipping costs with some of the secrets above.
