I finally broke down and bought a new washer and dryer sets. Today I wanted to give you some awesome money saving tips for washer and dryer sets.
I have 8 kids ya’ll. Yes, 8 kids, and only 1 washer and dryer. It is tough… real tough.
No tough like it would be if I had to hand wash everything, but some days I just wish we had a second set. However, that just wasn’t in the budget. However my washer and dryer set was getting old – like 9 year old and they are on their last leg. Or should I say last cycle? 😉
I know… I crack myself up sometimes. Today I wanted to share with you some tips on how to save on a washer and dryer like I did. I accidentally got the savings but looking it back they were all a bit purposeful.
Here are my money saving tips for washer and dryer sets:
Step 1 – Figure out your needs and wants
First, you need to figure out what you need and what you want. Sure you might want a pretty red set, but that can be compromised if you want to save more money. For my family I really wanted the largest set I could find. That was need. All the bells, the whistles, and the color didn’t matter in the scheme of it all because I just wanted a bigger set.
Step 2 – Ask for recommendations
My first tip is to ask around. Post on your Facebook page and ask for suggestions. I got a ton of responses from friend’s suggestions. They told me what they had and what they loved or didn’t love from it.
Step 3 – Do your research before you shop
Get online and do a search for those brands and styles that your friends suggested. Write down the pros and cons and the prices for each. That way you can sit back and compare.
That was great and that helped me narrow down what sets would fit my needs. I had narrowed down my search to two models.
One set I REALLY wanted but it was out of my price range and one set that I knew would work that was in my price range.
Step 4- Head to your local store
Go to your local store with your comparisons in hand. Talk to them about what you need and what you want. Talk about prices and be honest with them. Plus since you have your comparisons you will know if you are getting a good deal or not.
Step 5 – Ask for a price match and Shop around Holidays
A lot of appliances stores will actually price match competitors including online competitors. Ask your store if they do that and if they don’t, then maybe you should try the next shop.
Also, shopping on or around holidays helps a ton. Since we were shopping on Labor day weekend we got an extra 25% off the clearance price. That was HUGE SAVINGS! I knew we needed a new washer and dryer so I purposefully waited until labor day weekend. Around Thanksgiving is another great time to shop. 😉
Step 6 – Check out the Dent and Ding Area
Oh my… this saved me $1,000 alone. The washer that I purchased has a ding in the front at the bottom. You don’t even notice it in my laundry room. Even if you did – who cares? It is in my laundry room and I just saved $1,000 because of that beautiful ding.
A ding has never looked so beautiful to me than that ding on that washer. (Again, totally cracking myself up over here!)
So how did I save so much money?
Well, let me first tell you that the giant washer and dryer set sitting in my laundry rom is the set that I really wanted but couldn’t afford. However, because of these tips, I got this set for HALF of what it wouldn’t have cost me which brought it down to my budget.
My set was in the Dent and Ding department which saved me $1000.
Because I shopped on labor day I got an extra 25% off, because of the sale promotion they were having. I walked in knowing about exactly what I wanted. Because I told the sales rep that I cared more about the size than the style or color, she took be straight to the washer in the dent and ding department.
All in all… it worked out perfectly.
Because I planned out perfectly I was able to save a lot of money on a beautiful washer and dryer set to keep my kids clothes looking beautiful.
