I don’t know about your family, but we go through a lot of eggs in our house! Instead of just continuing to throw the egg cartons into recycling, I thought it would be fun to create some ways to reuse egg cartons.
Here are 7 fun uses my family and I came up with:
1. Jewelry Storage
Simply cut off the top half of the egg carton and use the egg cups to store earrings. Now its easy to find the pair you are looking for! This is much cheaper and easier than buying a jewelry box.
2. Painting
My kids love to paint, but it can get so messy! You can use egg cups to “ration” different colors of paints in and let the kids paint to their heart’s content.
3. Small Toy Storage
My boys have these tiny little figures, they’re called GI Joe Micro Force. Well, it seems like they are always on the floor, either getting stepped on by my bare feet or nearly vacuumed up. I used part of an egg carton for the boys to store their mini figures. I only gave them as many cups as figures they have so they know when all of the figures are present and accounted for. 🙂 They can also turn the egg carton over to display their figures.
4. Card Games
I saw this idea Kids Card Holder at In the Light of the Truth and immediately recreated this! Simply turn your egg carton over and cut a small slit in the bottom of each egg cup. Cards are difficult for little hands to hold, but with this simple contraption, little ones can place their cards in the slits and keep their cards hidden from the other players. Our youngest LOVES this! By the way, we love this Spot It game, too. It is great fun for all ages.
5. Desk Drawer Organization
Do you have small bits and bobs floating in your drawer? Isn’t it crazy how such a small area can look like such a little disaster area? Clean up you desk drawer with egg carton organization. Since egg cartons are typically made of styrofoam or cardboard, these are easy to cut to the size you need. I like to keep a couple of spaces open if I happen to find another something small that needs a home. 😉 I love this use because I can’t stand on spending money on something so simple.
6. Loom Band Storage
If your kids are into Loom Bands as much as mine are, you are going to love this simple solution – use an egg carton to store different color bands. This storage solution is so cheap and easy, every kids can have their very own tray of colors. This would work great for a loom band themed birthday party, too! It sure beats paying money for a storage box.
7. Sorting Game
If you have a toddler or preschooler, this simple sorting game is great for learning colors! I simply put a different color chip in each egg cup and then had my little one match the colors. This is a great activity for counting, too. You can also write the color word on each egg cup to work on word recognition as well. There are so many fun learning opportunities here.
These are just a few of my favorite ways to reuse egg cartons. By reusing items instead of throwing them away, we are saving money! How do you reuse your egg cartons?
