Materials

  • Fabric
  • 1/4" elastic
  • Thread
  • Pins
  • Tape Measure
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Masking Tape

Instructions

  • Cut a piece of fabric 4" wide x 20" or 22" long. Either length will work.
  • Fold the fabric in half, right side in and pin. Stitch the long edge of the fabric and remove the pins.
  • Next, turn the fabric right side out. I found the easiest way to do this was to thread your finger into the fabric and using your thumb and finger roll up the fabric.
  • Cut a piece of elastic 9" long. Thread the elastic through the fabric. Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic.
  • I taped the elastic to a pencil, wrapping masking tape around the elastic and pencil on each end. Thread the pencil (with elastic) onto the fabric, scrunching it up as you fish it through.
  • When the elastic comes out of the opposite end, remove the tape and discard. Remove the pencil and you should have elastic in the fabric. Tie the elastic in a knot.
  • Thread the elastic into the scrunchie so the knot is not at the opening but inside of the fabric. Fold over the ends of the fabric and insert one end into the other. Stitch the scrunchie shut, back stitching each end.
  • Remove from machine and trim excess thread.
  • Repeat making as many scrunchies as you'd like.
