Ways to save money at Dollar Tree
I have been shopping at the Dollar Tree for years and I have learned a lot along the way. I want to share some secrets you need to know before shopping Dollar Tree. You still need to be a savvy shopper.
I’m sure we all have our own tips and tricks. So, I would love to hear what your Dollar Tree secrets are as well!

1. Not everything is a good deal at Dollar Tree.
Just because something costs $1, doesn’t automatically mean its a good deal. It is important to check the price per unit.
For example, let’s you find a 4-pack of off-brand toilet paper for $1. Per roll, that comes to $0.25 per roll. Now, that’s my stock up price, but for name brand toilet paper!
I often find deals for name brand toilet paper below $0.25 per roll. So, watch the price per unit to make sure you are getting a good deal.
Cleaning supplies can be a good deal but make sure it is a full size product.
2. Dollar Tree accepts coupons.
This might not be much of a secret to some of you, but you would be surprised at how many people don’t know that Dollar Tree accepts coupons.
They accept all types of manufacturer’s coupons – printable and coupons clipped from the paper!
There are some coupon restrictions so make sure you read up on their coupon policy here. I love using dollar tree coupons!
3. Look for the Sunday Paper.
Speaking of coupons, many Dollar Tree stores carry your local paper. If they carry the Sunday paper (the one with the coupons), then you’ll be able to pick up the paper for only $1.
That is a great price, especially considering the Sunday paper can cost upwards of $2-$2.50 in some locations.
4. Mobile app rebates are accepted.
You know those awesome Checkout 51, Ibotta and MobiSave apps? Well, did you know you can use these rebates at Dollar Tree, too?
Download these apps to your smartphone and check the most recent deals before you head into Dollar Tree.
This is one of my favorite secrets you need to know before shopping Dollar Tree because it requires very little work to save a lot of money.
5. Each Dollar Tree store is a little different.
I have 2 Dollar Tree stores that are about the same distance from my house and let me just say, they are quite a bit different. One store is much bigger and has a large refrigerated food section.
They have more stock in just about every area. I love shopping there for party supplies and decor.
However, I go to the smaller Dollar Tree near me because I know when they stock their bread. We love Nature’s Harvest bread and I can usually pick some up before it sells out.
It’s cheaper than purchasing at grocery stores.
Anyway, each store is a little different. If you are looking for a specific product and don’t find it at one Dollar Tree store, it doesn’t mean you won’t find it at another store.
Another good item that I have seen at all locations is pregnancy tests. You can’t beat $1!
6. Dollar Tree has a loyalty program.

7. You can shop online at Dollar Tree.
Did you know you can shop online at Dollar Tree? This is very helpful if you are planning a party or craft night or even decorating for a wedding. You can buy items individually or by the case.
Free in-store pick up or UPS delivery to your home is also available on most items.
8. Great place to take the kids.
Do your kids have money burning holes in their pockets. When our kids were little, they loved shopping at Dollar Tree. They always seemed to be amazed by what they could buy.
My older kids now have specific things they like to save their money for. However, Dollar Tree is a great place to take younger kids so they can buy their own things.
Kids love paying for their own things and shopping at Dollar Tree is easy because everything (well just about everything) costs $1, plus tax.
9. Dollar Tree does not offer refunds.
You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit. 😉 Make sure what you buy at Dollar Tree is what you want as they do not offer refunds. They consider all sales to be final.
They will, however, accept an exchange on an unopened product as long as you have your original receipt. I have bought the kids trinkets or toys that broke within a minute of being opened. It happens.
When you pay $1 for something, how long do you really expect it to last? Family Dollar is another one of our favorites to shop.
10. Be wary of things that cost a lot more at other stores.
Ok, this might seem like a no brainer, but I believe the old adage holds true – if it seems too good to be true… For instance, a lot of Dollar Tree stores carry vitamins.
Consumer Reports tested their vitamins and noted several did not contain the nutrients in the amounts noted on the labels. These dollar store items are ones I avoid.
Also watch out for electrical products with missing or fake UL labels. Electrical items should be tested and approved by UL for them to be safe for consumers. Untested items can truly be unsafe as they can lead to overheating and fires.
