Honey is delicious to eat but there are lots of alternative uses for honey. Learn how to use honey with these 13 easy ideas.
Alternative uses for honey
We love honey in our house. Most of the time, we put it on toast, but there are so many other uses for honey.
When we set out to share different uses of honey with you, we realized there is a drastic difference between typical grocery store honey and real, natural honey.
Unprocessed honey, straight from the hive, has awesome natural properties. It may be worth it for you and your family’s health, to invest in real, raw honey.
How to use honey:
1. Drink It
This is probably not a new idea for many. You can put some honey in a cup of hot tea and drink this to soothe a sore throat.
You can also add some honey to any other drink in place of artificial sweetener. This is much healthier for you and might even give you a little boost of energy.
2. Heal that Wound
The next time you need to apply a band-aid, dab the wound with a little honey. This will help keep the band-aid from sticking to the wound, plus you’ll find the wound will heal faster.
3. Ease Allergies
If you can find a local supply of fresh honey, you are in luck. Just eat about a spoonful of raw (local) honey a day to help ease your allergies. You can eat this straight or add a teaspoon to your tea.
4. Energy
Do you need a boost of energy during the day? Or maybe a little pick me up before a workout?
Try having a little “shot” of honey. The natural sugars in the honey should give you the little energy boost you are looking for.
5. Face Wash
Many people swear by washing their face directly with honey. Simply wash your face with warm water and then directly apply the raw honey to your face (avoiding your eyes).
Let it sit on your face for at least 15 minutes, then gently rinse with warm water.
6. Say Good-Bye to a Hangover
The next time you are trying to recover for a night with a little too much to drink, try adding a spoonful of honey to your tea or spreading some honey on your toast.
The natural sugar in the honey will help speed up the metabolism of the alcohol in your system, thus moving the hangover along faster.
7. Soften Skin
If you notice you or a loved one have some dry elbows, rub some raw honey on the rough area. Let it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes and then wash off with warm water. This might would also work on dry heels.
8. Soothe a Burn
I cannot count the number of times I have gotten a minor burn – usually on my hands. The next time you have a small burn, rub a generous amount of honey to quickly soothe your skin.
The coolness of the honey will ease the pain and the natural healing properties in the honey will get your skin back to its normal in no time.
9. Clear up Your Skin
If you have a little acne you’ve been battling, try dabbing a little honey on a spot. Let it sit for a minute or two and then rinse off.
The redness of the pimple will be gone, plus the honey won’t dry out your skin the way typical acne medications can.
10. Tame Frizzy hair
The next time you’re in the shower, rub some pure honey on the ends of your hair. Rinse it out before you turn the water off and you’ll notice smooth, soft ends.
This is great to try at this time of year when we are so constantly changing from hot to cold without much notice.
11. Slip Into Sleep
If you find yourself tired, but unable to sleep, try this easy remedy. Mix about a teaspoon of honey into a cup of warm milk.
Sip this little concoction and drift off to dreamland.
12. Pamper Yourself
I know some of you really enjoy a nice bath. Have you ever tried adding a little honey to your bath?
I have read that even a spoonful or two of honey in the bath will soften your skin from head to toe.
13. Ditch the Diet
While diets usually involve removing things, why not try adding something? Honey can be used in place of other sweeteners.
It is all natural and much better for you. Honey is also known to speed up metabolism and we all know we could all use a bit of metabolism speeding up.
