Do you love Febreze? We sure do and I love even more that I can make my own Febreze at home.
For just pennies on the dollar, you can make this diy fabric spray that smells amazing. Once you see how simple this is, you will never buy store bought again.
I have been making DIY Room Spray and I’m excited about this DIY Febreze to remove odors.
Why We Love This
It’s so easy to make Febreze at home. We always make our own and never buy from the store anymore.
If you can mix a few simple ingredients, you can make Febreze! I use essential oils for a great way to naturally make Febreze. Combine with a few other easy ingredients and you are set!
The environmental working group released an article about chemicals released into the air when using Febreze. Some of these chemicals include an immune system toxin which is linked to allergies, skin irritation and more so it’s better to make natural Febreze.
Store bought Febreze claims to not kill bacteria causing odor molecules but trap them instead.
While some recipes might call for hot water, isopropyl alcohol, fabric softeners and more, ours does not. With onlly 3 ingredients, you can make this!
Supplies
- Glass Spray Bottles – These glass bottles are 16 oz and work perfectly.
- Essential Oils. We used Lemon Essential Oil and Peppermint Essential Oil.
- ½ Cup Witch Hazel or Vodka. The brand doesn’t matter so get the cheap kind. Witch hazel is a natural solvent.
- Water. It needs to be distilled.
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1. Put ½ cup of witch hazel in the spray bottle. You may need to use a small funnel, so it does not spill. The witch hazel helps the oil mix into the water, but you can use any type of Vodka as well.
Step 2. Put 20 drops each of the lemon and peppermint essential oils into the glass bottle since this is a larger bottle.
Step 3. Fill the rest of the bottle with the distilled water. You can use a funnel to pour the liquid.
Step 4. Shake to mix thoroughly before spraying.
How to Use DIY Febreze?
Simply spray to freshen your furniture, curtains, pillows, dirty laundry hamper and other upholstery.

Is this safe around pets? I read that you shouldn’t use peppermint around dogs. It messes with their noses and can cause breathing problems. I would love to make this but am concerned about my fur babies.
Lahoma
I haven’t had any issues with my dogs and I have 3 currently. I do not apply them directly on my dogs and I always dilute the oils before using. You might want to check with your vet to be sure. Thank you!
Can it be a plastic spray bottle?
I don’t recommend plastic bottles when using essential oils as the plastic will absorb the oil and you will no longer have it in your mixture. Glass bottles work best with this DIY Febreze. Thanks!
