Grab some paper and get started today making this cute origami heart. We love origami and it makes for such an easy activity. It is perfect for rainy days or when it is too hot outside to play.

We recently made this Origami Cube and the kids really enjoyed it. I thought I would try making an origami heart and everyone had a blast.

Why We Love This

You do not have to spend tons of money or time for activities to be fun. This is a great example of an activity that utilizes things around the house.

It is easy to try these simple origami hearts anytime you want since the supplies are so minimal. You just need a sheet of paper to get started making paper hearts. It is easy enough for beginners and takes just a little bit of patience.

Supplies

3 Red pieces of square paper with a ruler
  • Paper cut into a square.  Any size will work but you need to start with a square.  Ours measure 14 cm X 14 cm for these hearts. You don’t need special origami paper but just a square sheet.

Step-By-Step Instructions

Step 1- First, start to fold to the bottom point of the paper to the top edge of the paper and crease the fold.  Then undo this fold.

Step 2- Second, fold the right side of the paper to the left side of the paper and crease the fold.  Then undo this fold.  However, you should have a cross shape on your paper from these folds.

Step 3- Then, fold the bottom of the paper to the center fold and crease this fold.  Flip the paper over.

Step 4 – Next, fold the bottom corner of the paper to the center crease diagonally.

Step 5 – Fold the bottom left corner of the paper to the center crease diagonally as well.

Step 6 – Also, fold the bottom and flip the paper over again.

Step 7 – Now there should be a small triangle pocket visible at the bottom of your paper.

Step 8 – Fold the right side of the paper to the center crease.

Step 9 – Then fold the left hand side of the paper to the center crease as well.

Step 10. Fold the right top points corner to the center crease diagonally and crease this fold.

Step 11 – Fold the top corners to the center crease diagonally and also crease this fold.

Step 12 – Bring the top triangle down and afterwards insert it into the bottom edge triangle pocket gently.

Step 13 –Then flatten the top section of the heart with the little flaps.

Step 14 – Fold the top left corner of the paper in diagonally to the side of the sideways triangle. Fold the top right corner of the paper in diagonally to the side of the opposite sideways triangle.

Step 15 – Fold the top 2 points of the heart down slightly to finish your origami heart shape.

Step 16 – Finally, you have simple little origami hearts.

  • Then flatten the top section of the heart.
  • Fold the top left corner of the paper in diagonally to the side of the sideways triangle.
  • Fold the top right corner of the paper in diagonally to the side of the opposite sideways triangle.
  • Fold the top 2 points of the heart down slightly to finish your origami heart!
