How to make an Origami Heart

Grab some paper and get started today making this cute origami heart. We love origami and it makes for such an easy activity. It is perfect for rainy days or when it is too hot outside to play.

We recently made this  Origami Cube and the kids really enjoyed it. I thought I would try making an origami heart and everyone had a blast.

You do not have to spend tons of money or time for activities to be fun. This is a great example of an activity that utilizes things around the house.

Let’s make an origami heart!

Supplies for diy origami heart:

  • Paper cut into a square.  Any size will work but you need to start with a square.  Ours measure 14 cm X 14 cm for these hearts.
1 sheet of red square paper

How to fold an origami heart:

  • Step 1: Start to fold to the bottom of the paper to the top of the paper and crease the fold.  Then undo this fold.

  • Step 2: Fold the right side of the paper to the left side of the paper and crease the fold.  Then undo this fold.  You should have a crease cross shape on your paper from these folds.

  • Step 3: Fold the bottom of the paper to the center fold and crease this folder.  Flip the paper over.

  • Fold the bottom right corner of the paper to the center crease diagonally.

  • Step 5: Fold the bottom left corner of the paper to the center crease diagonally as well.

  • Step 6: Fold the bottom and flip the paper over again.  There should be a small triangle pocket visible at the bottom of your paper.

  • Fold the right side of the paper to the center crease.

  • Step 8: Then fold the left side of the paper to the center crease as well.

  • Fold the top right corner to the center crease diagonally and crease this fold.

  • Step 10: Fold the top left corner to the center crease diagonally as well and crease this fold.

  • Bring the top triangle down and insert it into the bottom triangle pocket gently.

  • Step 12: Then flatten the top section of the heart.

  • Fold the top left corner of the paper in diagonally to the side of the sideways triangle.

  • Step 14: Fold the top right corner of the paper in diagonally to the side of the opposite sideways triangle.

  • Fold the top 2 points of the heart down slightly to finish your origami heart!

  • Fold the right side of the paper to the left side of the paper and crease the fold.  Then undo this fold.  You should have a crease cross shape on your paper from these folds
