Where can I hike in Oklahoma?

If you are wondering where you should start, here are some of the top hiking trails in Oklahoma that will be perfect for your family to check out.  Are you ready to explore some nature? These are great trails and sure to be a ton of fun!

Let’s get started with the best hiking trails in Oklahoma!

1. Rough Horsetail Nature Trail, Red Rock Canyon State Park

Rough Horsetail Nature Trail at Red Rock Canyon State Park is a relatively short hike (0.6 miles), but it is unique in that from your hike you will be able to watch rappellers climbing the canyon walls.

Even though the hike is short, there are several loops available so you can take a different route each time and see different views.  Make sure to bring clothes that aren’t too important to you, because the red dirt can stain.

2. Creek Loop Trail, Osage Hills State Park

If you are looking for an easy trail with a water view, Creek Loop Trail at Osage Hills State Park is the one.  At just one and a half miles long, there is very little elevation gain (42 ft), but you will stroll along rocky bluffs and wooded areas as well.

The features of this trail include the creek as well as some rugged terrain, but it is considered to be a beginner level trail system, so all hikers will have fun here.

3. Dripping Springs Trail, Natural Falls State Park

Dripping Springs Trail at Natural Falls State Park is a great hike for a day trip with the family.  It’s only 1.6 miles long, but the 77 ft waterfall that greets you at the end of the trail is quite stunning and there is a small fishing lake along the path as well, so bring your pole if you like to fish.

The elevation gain throughout the trail is a mild 164 feet.

4. Canyon Trail, Robbers Cave State Park

Although Canyon Trail at Robbers Cave State Park is more of a moderate trail, it is still quite family friendly.  At roughly a mile and a half long, it is heavily trafficked so prepare to run into other hikers while you are there.

This hike will greet you with views of lakes, forests, sandstone cliffs and more.  You will even catch glimpses of rappellers while you are there!

If you want to stay awhile, book a campsite and spend some time enjoying Jesse James’ famous hiding spot.

5. Elk Mountain Trail, Wichita Mountains

The Elk Mountain Trail, located in the Wichita Mountains is a great trail for those that like a fantastic view.  It is 2.2 miles long and rated as moderate, mostly due to the uneven terrain (no strollers on this trail).

While you are hiking this trail, you will be rewarded with views of rocky bluffs, mountain tops and wildflowers are abundant throughout.  The boulder climbing will add to the adventure, but may be too much for little kids.
