Slime is also great for sensory play. With only 3 ingredients, this slime is very simple.

You might be surprised that you do not need saline solution or baking soda. There isn’t any contact solution in this DIY.

Is birthday cake slime edible?

No, this is not an edible slime recipe. Even though this slime is called birthday cake, it is not edible birthday cake slime. This is not meant for consumption.

Ingredients for birthday cake slime:

You only need 3 ingredients to make this homemade slime. 

How to make Birthday Cake Floam Slime: 

  • Step 1 – First put the white glue in a medium size mixing bowl.

*Pro Tip: You can add food coloring to the glue at this point if you prefer.  Pink or Blue would be adorable. 

  • Step 2 – Then slowly add in the liquid starch and stir until the slime starts to form. You want the slime to be stickier then normal to hold the foam beads so do not over activate the slime by adding too much liquid starch at this time.

  • Step 3 – Next mix in the of foam beads.  We added approximately 1 cup but you can add more if you would like.  This is the fun part so allow the kids to add however much they want to create their own unique birthday cake slime.

  • Step 4 – Then continue to stir in the foam beads.  Once the glue starts pulling away from the edge of the bowl and sticking to the spoon, remove the slime from the mixing bowl and mix with your hands.

How to make slime less stickier?

You can add more liquid starch if the slime is too sticky at this time.  The slime will be really sticky at first but once you knead the slime with your hands it will become less sticky.

Also, with more experience in slime making, you’ll quickly learn how much liquid starch is needed to create the slime with a texture of your preference.

How to store homemade slime:

Store the slime inside an air tight container or sealed bag. 

How long will homemade slime last?

The slime shouldn’t go bad if it’s stored correctly.  When you take the slime out of the container, if it’s too sticky, you can add more liquid starch. This should help it return to the consistency that you prefer.

If the slime is too stiff, we recommend mixing in a small amount of hand lotion. You can add approximately 1 tsp at a time until the slime is back to the stretchiness that you prefer.

The slime should last up to 2 weeks if stored properly.

What is the difference between foam slime and floam slime?

A lot of people gets these 2 things confused and who can blame them since the names are so similar.

  • Foam slime is a type of slime that has shaving cream added to it. This makes the texture fluffy. You can easily turn this birthday cake slime recipe into a birthday cake foam slime by adding 1-2 cups of shaving cream (the foam type) to make it fluffier than the original recipe.  Just mix the shaving foam in prior to adding in the foam beads.
  • Floam slime is a traditional slime recipe in which small polystyrene balls have been added to the slime to make the slime easier to mold into different shapes.  This recipe is to make birthday cake floam slime.
