We have a house full of kids and goodness those shoes can pile up! Sports and sweat and daily wear can bring on odors that are not pleasant. Many of the store bought deodorizer sprays are full of chemicals and simply mask the odor. We have a DIY shoe spray that will not only eliminate odors but leave shoes smelling fresh and clean! This is so simple that you will kick yourself for not trying it sooner! You can use any size spray bottle you have on hand. The basic ratio is 1 part alcohol to 2 parts water. So depending on the size of your containers you can change your recipe. I like to do multiple containers so that I have several bottles on hand. This saves time doing a couple at one time. It doesn’t take any more work or time.
Essential oils do better in glass so I recommend using a glass spray bottle. Also, if you do not have purified or distilled water, simple boil water and use that. - 3 tablespoons rubbing alcohol
- 6 tablespoons purified water
- 5 drops tea tree essential oils
- 4 drops peppermint essential oils
- 3 drops eucalyptus essential oils
Again you will need to change the amounts depending on what size spray bottle you use.
How to Make Shoe Deodorizer Spray?
Mix everything together in a measuring cup with a spout. Pour into spray bottle. It’s that simple and easy!

You can also use baking soda and essential oils. That is another good option as well. However, I find the spray is most convenient. Just spray the shoes and move on. I usually spray all the shoes before bed time. That way they are dry by the morning if needed to wear again.
