What is the best homemade shoe odor eliminator?

This is so simple that you will kick yourself for not trying it sooner! You can use any size spray bottle you have on hand.

The basic ratio is 1 part alcohol to 2 parts water. So depending on the size of your containers you can change your recipe.

I like to do multiple containers so that I have several bottles on hand. This saves time doing a couple at one time. It doesn’t take any more work or time.

Essential oils do better in glass so I recommend using a glass spray bottle.  Also, if you do not have purified or distilled water, simple boil water and use that. Just make sure to let it cool completely before using.

Tips for homemade shoe deodorizer:

  • Baking Soda. You can also use baking soda and essential oils. That is another good option as well. However, I find the spray is most convenient because you can just spray the shoes and move on.
  • Spray at night. I usually spray all the shoes before bedtime. That way they are dry by the morning if needed to wear again. You can wake up to fresh smelling shoes as this spray works great to absorb odor.
  • Don’t oversaturate the shoes. A light mist is all that is needed to remove the odors. You do not want to spray so heavily that the shoes take too long to dry.

How does this work?

The rubbing alcohol kills bacteria and works to eliminate smelly shoes. It is such a wonderful ingredient while being so simple and budget friendly.

How long will diy shoe deodorizer last?

Rubbing alcohol has a long shelf life. It will last 2 to 3 years before it starts to evaporate.

Then it will start to evaporate and lose its effectiveness.
