Flavor Variations
If you are like me and you like a little flavor in your creamer, you can try adding these variations to the base recipe for a delicious recipe and a nice creamy texture.
- French Vanilla – Add one drop of vanilla extract to your coffee or 1 tbsp vanilla powder. We have even added a tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice when the fall weather hits.
- Vanilla Caramel – Add 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar and 1 tablespoon vanilla powder
- Hazelnut – Add 1 tablespoon Hazelnut syrup (add very slowly – may even need to mix in blender or food processor to prevent clumps)
- Irish Cream – Add 1-2 tablespoons cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules and 1-2 teaspoons vanilla powder
- Mocha – Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder for a delicious mocha coffee. Serve with a candy cane for a delicious chocolate mint taste.
- Sweetener – To add a hint of sweetness to your coffee add a ½ tablespoon of maple sugar, stevia, coconut sugar, or honey.
How to Make Homemade Powdered Coffee Creamer
- Step 1 – Mix together the dry ingredients in a large jar.
- Step 2 – Slowly drizzle the melted coconut oil over the dry ingredients.
- Step 3 – Stir together to combine all the ingredients or add all the ingredients to a jar, seal and shake until it’s well combined.
- Step 4 – Then the creamer is ready to use in your favorite coffee and enjoy!
Expert Tips
- Coconut Oil – Make sure to melt coconut oil prior to mixing with the other ingredients. If your coconut oil needs to be melting, you can easily melt in the microwave for about 10 seconds in a microwave safe bowl.
- Combining Mixture – After adding the ingredients to the mason jar, make sure to blend completely. If you do have some lumps of coconut oil, we recommend to use a butter knife to breakup these bigger pieces.
- Fresh Ingredients – When preparing this powdered coffee creamer, make sure you are using fresh ingredients and they have not expired. This will help to keep the creamer fresh while storing.
How Much Do You Add to you Coffee?
We usually add about 1-2 tablespoon to our hot or cold coffee and mix well so the powder dissolves. If adding to cold coffee, we recommend adding to the coffee first then adding in the ice so everything is blended well.
Feel free to add more to your coffee if you prefer.
Frequently Asked Questions
this adds that extra bit of creaminess that is oh so yummy in store bought creamers. I tried making this creamer without the coconut oil, and it just wasn’t the same. It is kind of hard to explain, but try your creamer in your coffee before adding the coconut oil and you will see what I mean.
Powdered Creamer costs about $4 for a 35 oz container, which is about $0.11 per ounce. This Homemade Powdered cost about .05 per ounces. That means if you made 35 ounces of homemade creamer cost about $1.86!
Store the Leftover Powdered Creamer in a glass airtight jar with a lid. It will stay fresh at room temperature for about a year.

You can store it on the shelf or in the fridge. It should last several months.
Can I make this without the powdered sugar? My husband likes powdered creamer, but doesn’t use sugar…
Just used this coffee creamer in my homemade hot cocoa mix – absolutely delicious!! Thank you for sharing!
I’d too like to know whether you can make this without sugar. I usually use agave as a sweetener, and I’d like to avoid the sugar if I can. This looks great though!
Of course you can make it without sugar. Usually powdered creamer is loaded with sugar. To make without sugar, just leave it out or add the equivalent non-sugar sweetener of your choice. BTW, agave nectar is a type of sugar. But to each his (or her) own.
Woo-hoo!
🙂
Thanks!
I can’t find vanilla powder. Do you think if I put all the ingredients in a blender and added a dash of vanilla extract that would work?
I have a few questions about coconut oil, vanilla powder and the hazelnut syrup….How can I email you??
Thank you so much for a powdered creamer that uses real food in the ingredients!!! This creamer is so creamy and it tastes awesome. I made the base creamer exactly as it’s written, I didn’t change anything.
How do I make vanilla powder? Thanks for the recipes, can not wait to start making these.
Can I just put a whole vanilla bean into the mixture instead of the vanilla powder or extract? Probably refrigerate for a couple weeks before using?
An impressive share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a co-worker who had been doing a
little research on this. And he actually ordered me breakfast because I discovered it for him…
lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thanks for
the meal!! But yeah, thanx for spending the time to discuss this subject here on your
website.
Just wanna state that this is very helpful, Thanks for
taking your time to write this.
This design is spectacular! You most certainly know how to keep a reader amused.
Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Excellent job.
I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more
than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
I made this yesterday and tried it in my coffee this morning and I love it! I wont be buying any other creamers at the store. I always felt that the other creamer I used had a metallic after taste which I didn’t like at all. Thanks for the recipe. I know if I want a flavored creamer now that I would know what to do. So easy thanks to you!
A print friendly version would be appreciated
Thanks for the suggestion Sandra!
For those of us with a coconut allergy do you have an alternative?
I would try leaving it out or you could try MCT oil. Thanks!
I was sooooooo excited to actually find a recipe for powdered coffee creamer, and I will definitely be making this! I have one question; since you use melted coconut oil, which would be a liquid, will the creamer be dry/powdered? I don’t get how it would be a powdered creamer when you add a liquid, melted coconut oil 😕.
Since it’s a small amount it doesn’t fully affect the powders and they are still in a powder form. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this recipe! I usually buy coffee mate in the large Plastic containers but have always been concerned about
Adding more plastic into the environment thus I have been trying to use as little plastic as possible. I cant wait to make this coffee creamer this morning and I will be able to keep a good supply in a mason jar…..thanks so much for sharing

Do you have a recipe for the Italian sweet cream coffee mate? It’s a favorite of mine.
No I don’t right now.
Will this work without the powdered sugar? I don’t use sugar. Wondering if it needs it for the consistency.
