Does the Starbucks app save you money?
The Starbucks rewards program via the app is a great way to save money. You earn stars for every purchase and they often run promotions where you can get even more stars!
You just need to register a gift card and pay each time with that card to enjoy the perks. The easiest way to keep up with this is to download the Starbucks app and keep loading money that way.
Some of my favorite features of the Rewards Program include:
- Promotions such as Happy Hour which feature half price drinks, bogo and other cool offers.
- Free food, drinks and merchandise once you collect a certain amount of stars.
- Free drink on your birthday
- Free brewed coffee and tea refills when you are in the store (my favorite perk!)
The free refills perk is a favorite! I love to go to Target and do my shopping and get a refill at Starbucks!
Let’s learn how to save money at Starbucks!

Save money at Starbucks and help the environment. Plus, by bringing your own reusable cup, you’ll save 10 cents on your morning Joe with the Starbucks reusable cup discount.

2. Ask for a larger cup if you take cream.
You can order a tall coffee in a grande cup or a grande coffee in a venti cup. When you tell your barista you want room for cream, you get an ounce or two less coffee.
Ordering a cup size up will ensure you get your full 16 or 20 ounces. I do this all the time because I don’t want to lose any coffee that I am paying for.
I get a tall iced coffee in a grande cup because I like a lot of cream. By ordering tall cups or a size up, I’m not losing any of that precious coffee I’m paying for. 🙂
3. Order water.
Don’t buy a bottle of water. Simply order any size ice water and enjoy the savings!
4. Sign up for Starbucks Rewards.
Get rewarded. Sign up for the Starbucks Rewards program to start earning free stuff such as drinks, food and merchanside. Everything you purchase counts toward your rewards, and you’ll begin accruing stars toward more free items.
As an added bonus, you also get a free drink on your birthday and free refills when you dine in-store!
5. Get cash back.
If you have a cash back rewards credit card, make sure to funnel your purchase through that card. Not to mention, if you are a Bank of America cardholder, Starbucks is often part of their BankAmeriDeals Reward program.
6. Get Social
“Like” Starbucks on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. They post corporate specials (like discounted beverages), so you’ll know when you can stop by and save some money.
7. Search for coupon codes before buying online.
Groupon and several other comprehensive coupon sites will provide you with current sales and coupon codes available before you make an online purchase. Every now and then, Groupon will offer a discounted Starbucks gift card offer.
8. Order iced drinks black and with ice on the side.
Have you ever watched the barista make your iced coffee? The cup is at least half-full of ice before they pour in your coffee, and if you also asked for cream, it’s game over.
Your are lucky to get half a cup of coffee. Add the ice and cream yourself at the condiment bar, and you’ll get way more bang for your buck.
At the very least, order light ice!
9. Pick up used coffee grounds.
Starbucks happily gives away used coffee grounds to promote composting. Not only will you save on plant food, but you can also save on mosquito repellent.
Put used, dried, coffee grounds on a cookie sheet, and burn them. Mosquitoes hate the smell.
10. Recreate your favorites at home.
