Ingredients

  • ½ cup Isopropyl Alcohol or 100 Proof Vodka
  • ½ cup White Vinegar. It fights bacteria due to the acid.
  • 1 cup Water. Distilled water will prolong the shelf life.
  • Glass Spray Bottles. Glass bottles are best, and the 16 oz size is perfect.

Variations

  • Hydrogen Peroxide. Replace the vinegar with hydrogen peroxide if you prefer.
  • Essential Oils. You can add a few drops of essential oils to the mixture. I like tea tree oil, lemon essential oil, lavender essential oil, eucalyptus and grapefruit to just name a few. Tea Tree oil is a natural disinfectant and fights off viruses. You can control the scent by making your own.

Step By Step Instructions

  • Step 1. Pour all the ingredients into a spray bottle.
  • Step 2. Next, put the top on and shake the bottle to thoroughly combine the ingredients.

Storage

Store the disinfectant in a cool dry place so it lasts longer. It will last about 2-4 weeks if you use tap water and 3-6 months if you use distilled water.

What Can I Use This Spray On?

  • Toys
  • Doorknobs
  • Faucets
  • Garbage cans
  • The soap dispenser
  • Toilet handle
  • Light Switches
  • Kitchen Counters
  • Or any items where gems can collect.

Pro Tips

  • Do not use on granite or marble countertops. Do not use this on granite or marble counters or stone surfaces as the vinegar can be corrosive on delicate surfaces.
  • You don’t need to wipe the surface. No need to even use disinfectant wipes with this easy spray and just let it air dry. However, if you prefer to wipe it down, allow to sit for at least 10 minutes before wiping with a microfiber cloth.
  • Equal Parts. The general rule of thumb is to use one part vinegar to one part water.
  • Use a funnel. It will be easier to pour the liquid into the spray bottle if you have a funnel.
  • Distilled Water. In order to prolong the shelf life of this disinfectant, I suggest using distilled water.
  • Proper airflow. Make sure the room you are spraying this has good airflow.
  • Cleaning Wipes. If you prefer wipes, soak paper towels in the solution and store in a ziploc bag.
