How do you dress like a chicken for Halloween?

No need to buy fancy costumes or supplies to dress like a chicken. We are going to show you how to do this with feather boas and a few other simple supplies.

Just add leggings and yellow feet to complete the look.

Supplies needed:

  • Old White jacket. You can also use a white shirt.
  • Feather boas . Make sure you have enough to cover the clothes entirely with feathers.
  • Yellow rubber gloves. Inexpensive plastic cleaning gloves will work great.
  • Glue. I always like to have extra glue sticks for the glue gun. It seems extra is always needed.
  • Rubber bands. This will be used to secure the gloves.
  • Leggings or any pants. This completes the look and you probably already have this.

How to make a chicken costume for kids:

  • Prepare a jacket. Use an old jacket or get one at the thrift store. Hot glue on white feather boa’s to the jacket. The jacket should be entirely covered so all you see is feathers.
  • Make the chicken feet. Stuff some yellow rubber gloves with stuffing or newspaper. Then use rubber bands to secure them to their shoes!
  • Complete the look. Kids can wear black leggings or any type of pants. I also suggest that you find a white shirt to wear under the jacket. Another idea is to wear yellow tights instead of black leggings.

The cheapest chicken costume I could find on Amazon was over $20. I am sure you could make this for $5 or less. I think it is so cute.

How do you make chicken feet out of rubber gloves?

It is very simple and inexpensive to do. Just pick up some cheap yellow plastic gloves from the dollar store. You want the rubber cleaning type gloves.

Stuff them with old newspapers, sales papers or any stuffing you have. Secure them to your child’s feet with rubber bands. They will look big and oversized which is perfect for this look.

Variation ideas:

  • White Pilot Cap. If the jacket does not have a hood that is easy to glue feathers on, use a white pilot cap instead. Kids can wear this to finish the look.
  • Chicken Masks. Wear a mask to complete the farm animal look if you prefer.
  • Long sleeved shirt. Instead of a jacket, use a white long sleeve shirt. Secure the feathers using a glue gun.
  • White onesie. If your child is younger, you can use a white onesie. Glue the feathers to this and you have an easy costume.
  • Pieces of red felt. Cut red felt from the craft store to make the shape of a chicken’s comb.

There are many different variations you can try with this easy costume. It is effortless to make and anyone can put this together.

Shop your closet or head to the thrift store. It really doesn’t even matter if it has stains because you will cover it up with feathers. This is an extremely frugal costume idea.
