5 free fall activities for kids
1. Attend Fall festivals
Fall festivals are a ton of fun for kids because they have all the things that kids love. They have excitement, games, food and often animals all in one place!
Fall Festivals are actually one of our family’s favorite kids activities during the fall months. Check with your local churches and schools to find fall festivals around you that are completely free for the community!
2. Chase leaves
Most kids need only a pile of leaves to have a great time in the fall. One game that will keep them playing for hours is to go out where there is plenty of room to run and and chase leaves as they let go of the trees or blow in the wind.
As they float down, the kids will have a blast trying to catch them before they hit the ground. Seriously… no matter the age, kids love playing this game, especially if Mom is out there keeping score.
This gives you time for a blanket and a good book in the fall breeze. So fun!
3. Fly a kite
Flying a kite in the fall is generally a pretty easy thing to do and one of our favorite fall activities for kids. Make sure you have some wind (which we rarely have a problem finding in the fall) and head out to the biggest open field you can find.
Flying a kite is a traditional spring and fall activity that every kid will enjoy. Now my family loves these kites on Amazon.
They are amazing. Skip the cheap kites and spend a few extra dollars on a nice kite. It will be easier for the kids and you can fly that kite for years.
4. Throw a party
Halloween is an inevitable part of fall and trick or treating will be the primary focus on Halloween. However that doesn’t mean you can’t pick a weekend day before Halloween to throw a party for the kids outside.
Let them all wear costumes and play some fun party games. Of course, Halloween doesn’t have to be the only reason to throw a party.
Call up a few family friends and invite them over for a cookout and some family fun (or to watch football). It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive to be fun.
5. Play a Sport
This is seriously our all time favorite fall activities for kids. Fall is the perfect weather to play basketball, kickball, or flag football.
You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy this. Some of our favorite times spent as a family is playing sports together in the backyard.
During the fall months, our favorite is to play kickball and football with the kids. For flag football you don’t have to have a fancy set.
However, we did buy this inexpensive set on Amazon and our family has been loving flag football since. We also ended up investing in a good kickball instead of using our old soccer balls and it is much nicer on the smaller kids’ feet.
