Supplies for clothespin butterflies:
Supplies Needed for clothespin butterflies:
- Wood Clothespin
- Coffee Filters
- Pipe Cleaners
- Markers – Any kind will work
- Paint – Colors of your choice
- Pipe Cleaners
How to make a clothespin butterfly:
First, paint the clothespin the colors of your choice. This will be your butterfly’s body. We set ours on a paper plate to allow it to dry. You can also color with markers if you don’t want to paint.
Then color the coffee filters with the markers. Use the colors that you choose. The entire coffee filter does not have to be colored as the colors will spread in the next step.
Next spray the coffee filter with water. We placed ours on a baking sheet for easy clean-up and used a spray bottle. The water blends the colors together and give the wings a vibrant look!
We love doing this step. Set them aside to dry. Luckily they do not take long since the coffee filters are a thin material.
Now it’s time to assembly your butterfly! Once the coffee filters are dried, singe the filter in the middle and pin with the clothes pin.
Then use the markers to add eyes and decorate the clothespin if you would like. You can also use googly eyes if you prefer.
Then make antennas with the pipe cleaner and glue to the top of the clothespin with a hot glue gun.
