What are scrunchies made of?

With just a few simple ingredients, you can make scrunchies. It is hard to believe but scrunchies are just made out of fabric and elastic!

What do you need to make velvet scrunchies?

With just a few simple supplies, you can make these DIY velvet scrunchies.

How to make velvet scrunchies:

1. Cut a piece of fabric 4″ wide x 20″ or 22″ long. Either length will work.

Fold the fabric in half, right side in and pin. Stitch the long edge of the fabric and remove the pins.

2. Next, turn the fabric right side out. I found the easiest way to do this was to thread your finger or a pencil into the fabric and using your thumb and finger roll up the fabric.

3. Cut a piece of elastic 9″ long. Thread the elastic through the fabric. Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic.

I taped the elastic to a pencil, wrapping masking tape around the elastic and pencil on each end. Thread the pencil (with elastic) onto the fabric, scrunching it up as you fish it through.

4. Thread the elastic into the scrunchie so the knot is not at the opening but inside of the fabric. Fold over the ends of the fabric and insert one end into the other. Stitch the scrunchie shut, back stitching each end.

5. Repeat making as many scrunchies as you’d like.

Making scrunchies is so easy and fun!

It only took me a few minutes and this project was complete. This is such an easy DIY and so useful.
