Every time I buy toilet paper, I feel like I am flushing money down the toilet. Don’t you agree?
Toilet paper is the one thing that new couponers always ask about “How can I save on toilet paper?”. Probably the number one thing that people spend WAY too much money on is plain old toilet paper.
I am just amazed at how people don’t even notice how much they are paying for toilet paper. There are several effortless ways to save money without much work.
6 tips to save money on toilet paper:
1. Always check prices and never pay more than your “rock bottom price”
First, you need to figure out what your “buy” price is for toilet paper. I prefer to figure up the cost per square foot. Some people will figure it up per “squares” in a package or my family has even gone to the basic formula… per roll.
My family will not pay MORE than $.25 per regular roll. If a package says 12 double rolls, I calculate that as 24 regular rolls. Then I will do the math according the the 24 count of rolls.
Now, figuring the price per roll isn’t the BEST or the most accurate way, but it will prevent you from paying WAY to much.
2. Toilet Paper Coupons
Utilize coupons to save even more when toilet paper is on sale.The key to saving money with ANY deal is to only use the coupon when the product goes on sale.
This is definitely true with rolls of toilet paper. Combine both for significant savings on an item that you need anyway.
3. Buy Toilet paper on Amazon.
I know this might seem weird but I love to buy toilet paper online. When it goes on sale on Amazon, I can get it for significantly less than in the store (even with a coupon).
Plus, it ships free to my house and I don’t have to carry around a huge package. The convenience and savings is wonderful with this option. Consider ordering online for this convenience.
4. Stop being brand loyal.
Ok, I might hit a few soft spots with this one. However, toilet paper is toilet paper. You do know that you are just using it for 5 seconds (tops) and then flushing it down the toilet, right?
Next time you find a fabulous deal and it isn’t your preferred brand, try it. You just might be surprised.
Now, if you find a brand that you absolutely do not like, then don’t get it again. However, at least give all brands a try. You might just be surprised with other brands you actually do like.
5. Teach your family how to “fold” instead of “wad” the toilet paper.
I don’t want to get too personal here, but did you know that “wadders” in the bathroom tend to use up to 75% more toilet paper? Try teaching your family, especially the kids, on how to fold this instead.
Using less means saving more money. This will have a big impact on how much you spend. This simple trick is a huge money saver and will reduce the amount used.
6. Compare the brands and packages.
Each brand packages their toilet paper differently. One package may be one ply and the other 2 ply.
One may be double rolls and the other mega rolls. That is why it is very important to pick a method to figuring out your rock bottom price. You want to make sure you are getting the most for your money according to sheets per roll or sheets of toilet paper.
Just because something is on sale does not mean it is the best deal. Always do the math to make sure you are getting your rock bottom price.
