Regular soap can be very drying to natural hair makeup brushes. You do not want to use any sulfate-based dish soap.
While it will clean any residual makeup, it will not prolong the life of makeup brushes. It should never be used as brush cleanser.
Furthermore, not just any shampoo should be used. It needs to be a gentle shampoo such as baby shampoo and not a harsh shampoo.
Tips for cleaning make up brushes:
- Do not submerge the brush. This will cause the glue that connects the head of the brush to the handle to breakdown over time.
- Use a gentle shampoo. Using plain soap and water will cause damage to the bristles and dry out over time.
- Rinse the brush under running water. Continue to clean until clear, clean water comes out.
- Remove excess water. Use a paper towel or towel to remove excess moisture from the brush.
- Allow to dry flat. Do not let the brushes dry upright. It will cause the water to run down the brush loosening the glue. It is best to lay them flat to dry.
- Massage the bristles. Gently massage the bristles and swirl the brush to ensure it is totally clean and free of dirt.
