Why We Love This
This is the perfect rainy day activity that is simple and only requires 3 easy ingredients to make. You probably already have what you need in your kitchen to make this fun jello slime.
The colors turn out so pretty and vibrant from the jello powder. Everyone will love this jello slime recipe.
Any brand of jello is fine so whatever you have on hand will do. I usually get the store brand because it is cheaper and works just as well.
This is a fun activity for younger kids, and it is also perfect for sensory play while being 100 percent edible. Everyone will have a blast with this taste-safe recipe that encourages independent play.
If you have young kids or preschoolers that you are concerned about using certain ingredients, this is a kid safe slime to make because it is edible. You don’t have to worry about little fingers and what might go in their mouths since it does not call for anything like borax, liquid starch, contact solutions or other ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 3 oz pack of Jello mix – any brand or color will work great
- ½ cup warm water
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1. First, combine the corn starch and jello powder mix in a large mixing bowl with a spoon until well combined. Next, add in ¼ of a cup of the warm water into the dry ingredients and stir until it’s well combined. It will be lumpy and difficult to stir once you add water. Don’t worry, just keep working with it.
Step 2. After this, you’ll need to use your hands to mix in the last ¼ cup of the warm water. Knead the slime with your hands until the Jello is the consistency and texture that you prefer. We like it to be firm if you squeeze and not drip like a liquid. Pull it slowly and see if it stretches if you pull.
Expert Tips
- Reduce stickiness. If your slime is too sticky, add more cornstarch.
- Add water to help with firmness. If the slime is too firm, add more water. You can easily work with this slime recipe until it’s perfect.
- Color combinations. You can make different colors for holidays. Red and pink Jello would be fun for Valentine’s Day, pastels for Easter, red and green for Christmas.
- Hand staining. Just a note that cherry and red colored jello will slightly stain hands. However, with a few hand washes, it will come off. You can avoid these colors if desired when making jell-o slime recipe. Another option is to use sugar-free jello which does not stain as easily as regular jello.
- Protect the surfaces. I suggest placing a cookie sheet or tray under the slime for kids to play with.
