If you thought our DIY Chalkboard Slime was cool, you are really going to love this color changing slime! It is so easy to make and just really a blast to play with.

You can actually change the color of the slime by using your hands or ice cubes.

We made this and the kids could not stop playing with it. Not only is it SO much fun to make but even more fun to play with.

Kids love slime and they are going to really LOVE this color changing slime. It is a very simple recipe and you don’t need boric acid, liquid starch or baking soda.

What do you need to make color changing slime?

How do you make heat activated slime?

  • First you need to make the slime activator.  To do this, you mix 2 tsp of borax with approximately 1 ½ cups of warm water.  Stir until the borax is dissolved and then set aside.
  • Then pour 1 cup of glue into a different bowl.

  • Next you slowly mix in the activator that was made in the first step by using a spoon until the slime is the consistency that you desire.  You will need to remove the slime from the bowl and mix with your hands as the slime solidifies during this process.  Add more of the activator is the slime is too sticky.

  • Once it’s completed, you can use your hands or ice cubes to change the color of the slime.

How to store slime:

Place inside a ziplock bag or container with airtight lid. This sure ensure the slime stays fresh.

How long will homemade slime last:

Homemade slime normally last about 2 to 3 weeks if stored properly.

Variation ideas:

  • You can use food coloring in the slime.
  • Try color changing glues such as elmers color changing glue.

Use ice to change the color of this slime recipe.

You can make designs with the ice cubes on the slime as the color changes. This is one of our favorite kids activities. It takes regular slime up a level.

Play with the slime and the heat from your hands will change the color. The more you play with it, the more it changes colors.

Can I use paint to color slime?

You can but I usually just use a drop of food coloring because it is so easy. Plus, we always seem to have food coloring.

How do you make colored slime?

The thermochromic pigment will turn the slime into different colors as it is heat activated. You can use ice cubes or the heat from your hands.

    If I don’t have the color activated power can i just swap that out for food coloring? I know it wont change color which i’m fine with. Just want to make this for our morning activity and i doubt the store will carry that powder.
