What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils have been growing in popularity lately.  I was hesitant to try them at first but now (after years of use) I love them.

Essentially, they are highly concentrated plant extract that are also aromatic.  They are extracted from the plant through steam distillation.

These oils are used to promote well being.  They do have health benefits but are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any medical conditions.

There are a lot of different types essential oils that are available to purchase.  We recommend using 100% organic high quality oils as the others are extracted through a chemical process that can alter the state of the oil.

Essentials Oils can be beneficial to any family!

I’ve always tended toward the natural side of things, and when I became a mom, that went into overdrive.

Aromatherapy has been a big part of the shift for my family.  Aromatherapy is using the aroma from plants for healing.

While I’m not a doctor, I have found quite a few essential oils that work great for my family and me. Today we’re going to review Frankincense oil uses so that you can decide if you want to use this oil in your home as well!

What is frankincense essential oil used for?

Frankincense is a valuable oil and is historically known for its ability to relieve anxiety, boost energy and promote healing by boosting your immune system.

If you’re familiar with the Christian tradition, you know this was one of the three gifts brought to baby Jesus by the magi and for a good reason!

If you have been considering using essential oils Frankincense a great place to start!  It has many useful benefits.

Although research does not show that it can directly prevent any disease, it can greatly reduce inflammation in the body which can evenly lead to disease.

Beauty:

Frankincense is a Cytophylactic essential oil.  This means that it helps your body create new cells.

Therefore, it is a perfect addition to your beauty routine.   Apply it topically to scars, wrinkles, or other imperfections you’d like to minimize on your skin.

To be honest, I rub it all over my entire face every single night and I love it.  I apply right before I apply my moisturizer.

Healthy Digestion:

Not only can frankincense help to reduce bloat, it also promotes your belly break down your food properly.

Generally, I rub a small amount in a carrier oil on my stomach or diffuse Frankincense essential oil to aid in healthy digestion.

First Aide:

Frankincense has many therapeutic properties including natural antiseptic and astringent.  Therefore, it is useful on wounds. Not only does it help to fend off germs, it also aids in blood coagulation so wounds heal quicker than normal.

Major wounds still need to be seen by a doctor.  Give frankincense a try for those paper cuts and other minor mishaps.  You’ll be surprised by the benefits of this essential oil.

Estrogen regulation:

When taken internally (again, in capsule form), frankincense may help regulate your menstrual cycle and decrease the pain associated with it.

Because of the hormone regulation, it may also promote uterine health.

Does frankincense need a carrier oil?

Generally, I mix a few drops of the essential oils with a carrier oil or water before diffusing them or applying them topically.

Essential oils are highly concentrated so diluting them can weaken them some to ensure that they are not overused.

For topical use, I usually mix a few drop of Frankincense with fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil.  Both of these oils work great so if you are more sensitive to you, you can try the other instead!

If I’m diffusing it, I mix 4-5 drops of frankincense with water in my favorite diffuser.  This works perfectly every time!

Can frankincense be applied directly to skin?

Frankincense is a mild essential oil, so a few drops can be applied directly to your skin.  However, if you experience any irritation than I recommend diluting it with a carrier oil before applying it to your skin.

How to use frankincense oil on face:

Since Frankincense is a milder essential oil, it can be applied directly to your face for your skin care.  I rub 2 drops on my face at night as it has healing properties, helps reduces scars and has anti-aging abilities.

It does not irritate or agitate my skin or face.  If your skin is sensitive to it being applied directly to it, then I recommending mixing it with a carrier oil of your choice and then applying that oil to your face.

I would recommend jojoba oil.  I applied this one to my face as a moisturizes my face at the same time.  It works wonders!

Although it is not likely to experience side effects from using Frankincense oil, some of experienced rashes and nausea.

Also, it is not advised to ingest the oil directly unless it’s in the capsule form.
