- 24 gauge wire for an eye pin (or cut the head off of an actual pin with diagonal cutters)
- Jewelry Pliers
- Necklace
- Polymer Clay
- E6000 glue
I used Sculpey Bake Shop Variety Pack polymer clay but you can use the brand you prefer.
How to get started with polymer clay:
To make the eye pins: Cut a 1″ long piece of wire and wrap around the jewelry pliers. Set aside until ready to use.
To Make the Sloth- how to make polymer clay charms
You’ll need four colors of clay: dark brown, tan, black and white. Knead each color well before using.
Wash your hands before using any white clay to remove clay residue so it doesn’t contaminate the white clay.
Roll a small piece of dark brown clay into a ball. Set aside.
Roll a small piece of light tan into a ball and flatten. Press the tan piece onto the brown ball.
Roll two small dark brown clay pieces and flatten by squeezing between the finger tips. Shape the end to a point to create a teardrop shape. Gently press onto each side of the face shape and affix to the head.
Roll two small pieces of black clay and flatten between your fingers, press onto the brown spaces to make an eye. Use a teeny small piece of white to add detail to the eye.
Roll a small piece of dark brown into a snake shape and cut it with a sharp knife. Affix as the mouth. Cut a small piece and attach as a nose. Gently press clay pieces together.
Press the eye pin into the top of the sloth head and remove before adding to a baking sheet lined with foil.
Bake according to package directions: 275 for 15 minutes, per 1/4′ of clay. Cool completely. Once cool, dip the eye pin into E6000 glue and press into the hole. Let dry and add charm to a necklace.
To Make Penguin Charm – how to make polymer clay charms
You will need three colors of clay: black, white and orange. Knead each color well before using. Wash your hands before using the white clay to remove any clay residue so it doesn’t contaminate the white clay.
Roll a small piece of black clay into a ball. Flatten between your two fingers until about 1/4″ thick. Use a knife or scissors to snip the sides to create wings. Set aside.
Take a small piece of white clay and roll into a ball. Flatten on your hands, and create a “dent” in the top to create the top of the penguin head. The dent can be created by gently pressing a toothpick into the clay or a similar object. Gently press the white onto the black.
Roll 3 small balls of orange clay and place 2 on the bottom of the penguin for feet. Flatten the remaining ball and use a knife to cut it into a triangle shape. Gently press onto the penguin to make a beak.
To make eyes, roll a small piece of black into a short snake. Use a utility knife to cut a small piece of black and attach to the eyes. Gently press.
Press the eye pin into the top of the penguin and remove before adding to a baking sheet lined with foil.
