How are scrunchies better for your hair?
My daughters and I love scrunchies over hair ties because they don’t leave any marks in our hair. Plus, they are more comfortable and don’t give us a headache.
We prefer to wear scrunchies and now that I know how to make them, it’s even better!
Let’s get started learning how to make a scrunchie without sewing.
Materials needed to make this diy scrunchie no sew no hot glue project:
- 1 large fabric bandanna (measuring 20-22″ square)
- scissors
- tape measure or ruler
- Heat n Bond Ultrahold Iron-On Adhesive 3/8″
- 9″ piece of 1/4″ elastic
- pencil
- tape
- iron
How to make a scrunchie no sew:
Use a ruler to cut your bandana 4.5″ wide. I trimmed off the long finished edge of my bandanna since most bandannas are solid color.
Note- I cut off the solid color to have more of the pattern on my scrunchie.
Preheat iron to medium heat, no steam.
On the right side of the fabric, and along the long edge, cut a piece of iron-on adhesive. Apply adhesive by holding a hot iron on the paper liner for 2 seconds. Repeat until entire surface is bonded. Allow to cool.
Flip over the fabric and hold the iron onto the strip for two seconds. Let cool and peel off paper.
After removing paper, fold the fabric in half, bringing the edges together so it is folded right edge in. Press and hold iron on fabric for 8 seconds on each section until bonded.
Flip over the fabric and hold for an additional 6 seconds along the entire length of the tape. Let cool.
Turn the fabric right side out.
Attach a piece of elastic onto a pencil with tape. Thread the pencil through the scrunchie tube and once the elastic is in the tube, remove the pencil and the tape. Tie the elastic in a knot. Slide the knot to the opposite side of the fabric opening.
Cut a small piece of tape to fit around the edge of the opening. Iron the tape for 2 seconds on all sides. Let cool and remove paper baking. Slide the other open end onto the end with the tape and iron for 8 seconds. Let cool.
Wear your scrunchie as normal!
