5 Foods to Buy in Bulk to Save Money
One of the most important principles that we must learn early on as shoppers is how to buy in bulk. Some things are only very rarely on sale and keep for a very long time. When you get a buying opportunity on these items and they are products that you use on a regular basis, it makes good sense to stock up on them. Knowing which foods fit this criteria can save you a great deal of money on your food budget.
Here is a list of seven foods that you should always keep an eye out for when you are bulk shopping:
This incredibly flexible food can be a lifesaver when you are low on ingredients in the cabinet. Generally speaking, if you have pasta to work with you can make a supper or dinner in a flash. By up some pasta when it is on sale and keep it stored in mylar or something comparable to make it last the longest. Generally speaking pasta can last 2 1/2 to 3 years. You absolutely have to store it properly however.
One really awesome thing about beans is that the variety goes on for days. You can literally have a different type of bean soup for each day of the month if you wanted. As you find dried beans on sale, you will want to store them in a container that will completely keep the air out. Again mylar is the best choice. Dried beans generally will last you about three years. They can last much longer when stored perfectly.
Once again we are back to mylar for storage choice. Sugar is something that virtually every household uses so buying it up in bulk when it goes on sale makes perfect sense. Stored properly sugar will last a lifetime.
If you pick up flour at a great price, by all means stock up on it. You do want to be a little bit more reserved, however, because flour generally lasts about six months. You can keep it in your freezer and extend its life but that is not always very practical.
Out of all the items on this list, nuts has the biggest potential for savings of them all. The reason? Pretty much every type of nut is expensive. When they go on sale you really want to take advantage. This is particularly true if you eat them often. It seems that every year nuts are touted as the next big thing in healthy eating. We do know that in moderation they are wonderful for us. Keep your nuts in the refrigerator or freezer and they will last for about a year. The one exception is roasted nuts and they should be bought fresh.
These are only five of the buying opportunities we should be looking out for. There are many others including rice, canned tomatoes, meats and produce as it is in season. However, in general these are the best Foods to Buy in Bulk to Save Money for your family.
Grab as many of these as possible when the opportunity arises and you will have a considerable savings at the end of the year.
Why pay full price for something you buy all the time?
