How to hydro dip shoes with spray paint:
Step 1: Mask off any areas on your 3D item that you do not wanted painted with the masking tape. The entire item will be dipped so make sure any part of the item that you do not want covered in paint is masked off with the tape.
We did the soles of the shoes and the rubber portions on the side and bottom of the shoes.
Step 2: In a large plastic bin or bucket, fill ¾ of the way to the top with warm water. We used plastic bins that we found at the our local dollar store.
You will want to ensure that your bin is wide enough to hold the item that you will be dipping.
Choose the colors of the spray paint that you want for your item. Spray the paint on the top of the water and use a stick to slowly swirl the colors together to get the design that you prefer.
You can also spray multiple areas and use the different colors to get the marbled affect that you like.
Step 3: Then dip your shoe (top side down) slowly into the water and paint mixture. We chose the area we liked based on the design on top of the water in that area.
You will want to completely dip the shoe into the water very slowly and then pull it straight up so it does not get additional paint on when it’s removed. When the shoe is in the water, you can use your other hand to remove paint to prevent it from getting on the shoes as well.
We added additional paint to the same water prior to dipping the 2nd shoe.
Step 4: Allow both of the shoes to dry completely (2-3 hours).
Step 5: Then apply a top coat to seal the paint onto the shoes. Also allow this coat to dry completely.
Now you know how to make hydro dipped vans!
We did canvas shoes and faux leather shoes. In the end, the faux leather shoes looked prettier in the end but both worked out great.

How do you keep the paint from getting inside the shoe. Do you use masking tape on the inside as well. Thank you in advance.
Yes, we masked the inside of the shoe as well to be safe to make sure paint didn’t get on the inside. Thanks.
What did you use to seal them ?
I sealed them with a spray Polyurethane sealer. But you can also use a spray mod podge or scotch guard as well.
What type of material were the shoes made of? And how well did the paint adhere to it? Did it stay?
The shoes used were canvas. The paint adhered to them great and stayed on as well.
